“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. ”

1 Peter 5:10

A few weeks after we brought Ghost home, he developed a sickness. This is fairly common after neuter/spay surgery, but it can still be very scary. I first noticed his discomfort when I caught him hiding in the cubbyhole of one of our cat trees. I found this odd since he was usually very outgoing and rambunctious. He would zoom around the house like a miniature acrobat while amusing us with his antics. I managed to coax him out of his hiding spot, and could instantly tell he had a fever. We took him to the vet and were told he had an upper respiratory infection. They prescribed him some antibiotics, and told us to make sure he ate and drank. Cats have a tendency to starve themselves if they’re not in the mood to eat. In these instances, you have to take matters into your own hands and feed them with a medicine dropper.

This was the case with Ghost. He wouldn’t eat on his own steam, so I mixed his favorite food in the whole world (tuna fish) with some water, and fed it to him through a medicine dropper. I would hold him in my arms as he happily lapped up his liquefied food. He was soon nursed back to health and was back to his old playful self. I was so relieved when I finally saw him eating om his own. I was terrified that he wouldn’t make it, but God tended to my precious pet. He knew Ghost’s pain, saw my tears, and intervened to save the day.

This story makes me think of today’s Bible verse. Just like I wanted Ghost to have an amazing forever home, God wants us to have His Eternal Glory. Even though – just like Ghost – we will have to suffer for a little while, the God who created the entire universe will restore us and make us stronger THROUGH that suffering. In Ghost’s case, he DEFINITELY became stronger and more vibrant. It is now a little over a year since this happened, and Ghost now weighs a whopping 17 pounds! He is just as rambunctious as ever, and has a deep love for life. So, for today, let us continue to strive forward through our sufferings. The light of Christ WILL grow as we get closer to the Eternal glory He has in store for us. (Proverbs 4:18)
